The region between the
northern end of Vancouver
Island and Alaska is called
the Great Bear Rain Forest.
This long stretch is in many
ways the best of the Inside
Passage. Boaters eager to get
to Alaska frequently hurry
through these waters, but that
is a mistake. There are 114
watersheds between Knight
Inlet and Dixon Entrance,
and many of them provide
isolated anchorages, unspoiled
salmon rivers, and habitat for
brown and black bears. It is the home of the spirit bear and people come from all over the world seeking this unique strain of white bears.
